Thanks Faustina, that is a funny story about the old lady on the bus. There's probably similar stories from every community, I mean we have to laugh at ourselves every now and then. I have to say that I give our elders a lot of credit for learning a new language and being brave enough to speak it even if it means getting it wrong sometimes. So glad someone else finds this blog entertaining, someone other than my husband lol. Thanks for reading and hope to hear from you and Junelle again.

Good afternoon Samoanwoman, I'm Junelles friend I love this blog and this story had me chuckling. Being of african decent I am very good at figuring out a few things our elders get terribly wrong. I've been reading your blog now since yesterday and this was my favourite. There is a place called Elephant and Castle here in southeast london and I watched an old african lady on the bus unsure of where she was to get off ask the driver if he could tell her when the bus arrives at Animal and Something...I couldnt stop laughing. The driver was so confused so I told him what she meant we all couldn't stop laughing!
Bye for now

Junelle, you're actually doing really good for someone who has only a basic grasp of Samoan so you're well on your way to being fluent someday soon. Hats of to you for being determined to learn both the language and the culture, Manuia le vaiaso to you too

OhOh Samoanwoman, Fa'amalie atu I thought I'd better tell you that I'm only part Samoan and Palagi my understanding is very basic as I'm trying to learn and finding it very difficult. My adoptive parents were both palagi so the chances of me learning my culture was very slim. I'm now trying to learn more and I have no intensions of giving up either, faafetai for responding to me in our mother tongue as it gives me new challenges and encourages me to learn more. As for London it's okay thanks but very cold and dull these days which is why there doesnt seem to be many of us over here although a place in the UK called Gravesend has a steady community of Fijians. I would love to go to Samoa with my friends but I'm going to Dominica with my husband to visit his family.Ia manuia le aso
